Job Description Summary:

The Development Executive participates in developing fund raising strategies and develops and maintains donor relations in North America under the supervision of the Chief Development Officer.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Development Executive does not have supervisory responsibilities. The Development Executive is part of and works in close collaboration with the MWC Development Team:  Chief Development Officer, Bookkeeper & Development Assistant, and Volunteer Development Consultants.

Job Duties

  1. Annual Gifts
    Under the leadership of and along with the Chief Development Officer:
    • Create and implement annual strategies for fundraising with individuals, businesses, foundations, agencies, and congregations, giving priority to North America.
    • Focus energies on strengthening relationships in assigned areas of focus – geographic, specific major donors, foundations – according to skills, experience, and interests.
    • Implement regular fund appeals via paper, email and online.
    • Thank donors in a meaningful way for every contribution, using tools such as written thank you letters, cards, calls, and visits.
    • Write and submit relevant grant proposals and reports.
    • Nurture personal relationships with current and potential major donors.
    • Monitor, analyze and evaluate effectiveness of each strategy; adapt strategies as needed.
  2. Major Gifts
    • Create and implement strategies for major gifts and bequests to grow the Delegate Resourcing Fund, and other Funds as appropriate.
    • Nurture personal relationships with current and potential major donors.
    • Write and submit relevant grant proposals and reports.
    • Actively help develop and participate in any special fundraising campaigns, including a potential multi-year major fundraising campaign in recognition of MWC’s centennial and the 500th anniversary of the start of the Anabaptist movement.
  3. Collaboration within MWC
    • Participate in MWC Development Team.
    • Work with Chief Operations Officer as required.
    • Work with Chief Communications Officer on areas where communications and development overlap (e.g., donor articles in Courier magazine).
    • Work with North American Regional Representative regarding fundraising with congregations as well as some individuals and businesses.
    • Assist as needed in fundraising for other areas of MWC such as assembly, Global Youth Summit, and networks.

Qualifications and Competencies


  • Education: university degree
  • Experience: one to two years of relevant fundraising experience preferred
  • Familiarity with and understanding of global Anabaptist communities
  • Membership: membership in an MWC member church
  • Language: fluency in at least two MWC languages desired


  • Love for the church and passion for MWC
  • Proven fundraising ability
  • Knowledge of computer software, including donor databases
  • Written communication skills and verbal presentation/preaching skills
  • Strategizing, planning, and evaluation skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration
  • Cross cultural understanding
